March 2013 release
Black Rose Writing is proud to announce the release of Victorian Cat Tales
By Catherine Golden, Illustrated by Pam Golden
Come take an educational, fun-filled visit to Victorian England and meet two
cats named Rose and Leopold. Adventures abound once Leopold from Germany pays
a call on Rose, who lives in the cellar of Buckingham Palace, Queen Victoria's
residence. The cats' lives intersect with the history of Queen Victoria and
Prince Albert. As you follow the cats' adventures, you will also learn about
life in Victorian England.
Catherine Golden engages young readers with the mishaps of her delightful cat
characters while teaching British customs: calling cards, teatime, and the
language of flowers. The accompanying clay sculptures, photographed against
historical backdrops, seamlessly weave history lessons into a charming story
that brings the Victorian period to life. A professor of English at Skidmore
College, Catherine is the award winning author of Posting It: The Victorian
Revolution in Letter Writing and author of Images of the Woman Reader in
Victorian British and American Fiction. Pam Golden is a sculptor of
interactive installations and a veteran art educator. The characters of Rose
and Leopold are based upon Catherine's own cats, Rose and Lee. Catherine and
Pam are at work on the next book in this series entitled Victorian Cat Tales,
Book Two: Rose and Leopold Living Royally in Buckingham Palace.
